Sonya Cote is a trailblazing chef who helped define Austin’s farm-to-table scene long before it was trendy. Known for her artful plating, rebellious spirit, and love of hyper-local ingredients, Sonya has led some of the city’s most iconic kitchens—from Eastside Showroom to Hillside Farmacy. A classically trained artist turned culinary creative, she once painted menus by hand and made house-cured bacon an East Austin rite of passage.
Now based in Bastrop, she runs Storehouse restaurant, where nearly every vegetable on the plate comes from Eden East—her partner David Barrow’s farm just down the road. Sonya cooks with a seasoned instinct shaped by decades in the kitchen and a deep-rooted connection to the land.
